Description
?This synopsis is being posted to both the Federal Business Opportunities (FBO) page located at http://www.fbo.gov and the Navy Electronic Commerce on Line (NECO) site located at https://www.neco.navy.mil/. While it is understood that FBO is the single point of entry for posting of synopsis and solicitations to the Internet, NECO is the alternative in case FBO is unavailable. Please feel free to use either site to access information posted by the NSWC Division Crane.? MARKET SURVEY ? SOURCES SOUGHT SYNOPSIS The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division is seeking information pertaining to lightweight armor protection. The system needs to work around the existing USN small craft tripod assembly (MK16 Mod9), stand (MK16 Mod8), and post mounted crew served weapons. The armor system should be easily integrated to the existing tripod, stand, or post mount and should require minimal to no additional deck mounted provisions. The system must allow the gunner to train, elevate, and depress the weapon in the gun mount. It is also desired to integrate a solution that would allow the armor protection system to move with the gunner and provide support and restraint while the craft is in motion and while firing. However, it is not intended for the system to support the weight of the gunner. The requirement is for 360 degree protection for the weapons operator or as close as possible. The armor system should provide protection from threats zero to thirty (0-30) degrees from horizont al and extend from the deck to above the neck of the gunner. Depending on the craft configuration, the height of the armor required may be less. The armor should not interfere with any of the gunner?s normal personnel protective equipment such as ballistic vests, LBE, helmets, etc. The level of protection required of the lightweight armor is to stop 7.62 x 51mm NATO ball ammunition. The armor should be relatively easy to attach and remove and can be hinged for attachment and storability. Favorable consideration will be given to lighter weight materials or installations without sacrificing performance. Cost is also a consideration.
