Description
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) has a requirement to procure conference space for its First Summer Training Institute in Applied Research in Child and Adolescent Development on June 24-29, 2007 at the Bolger Center, 900 Newbridge Drive, Potomac, Maryland 20854. In keeping with the mission of the NIH to promote independent research careers in the biomedical and behavioral sciences, this Institute seeks to: Help investigators develop advanced skills in using theory and appropriate methodology to develop practices, interventions, or materials that improve the lives of children; To support investigators who are beginning careers as applied researchers by providing training that will build upon their existing content knowledge and research skills; Provide mentoring and guidance on topics including alternative funding support, dissemination of findings, and policy-relevant research. During the Summer Institute, participants will take part in a series of presentations, interactive seminars, and small group work that support the acquisition of advanced skills in planning and conducting applied research with children. Each day will include: topical seminars; afternoon sessions during which attendees work with others on their research plans; dinner address or panel discussions intended to broaden the scope of the training to include ?big picture? guidance and commentary. Faculty and speakers are drawn from various disciplines and include leading members of the research, policy, or communications communities. We have identified the core faculty-in-residence who will serve as mentors to designated small groups of attendees; serve as resources during the week; and be available on an as-requested basis for individual consultations about applied research design and project ideas. To maximize participation we plan to hold this first event off-site, which will ensure that NIH staff and faculty-in-residence are free from the day-to-day obligations of their offices and laboratories. Participants will arrive Sunday, June 24 and the first session will be held that Sunday evening to ensure maximum participation in evening and early morning events. To identify the most effective site for our meeting, consistent with our space needs and training objectives, the following are specific requirements for the location. The Bolger Center has set an all-inclusive price per person, which includes meals, breakout rooms, audio-visual support and private meeting space for our mentors and mentees to work together. The Center is located a short distance from the NIH which is close enough for NIH faculty to participate and which will ensure that participants, guest faculty and speakers will remain for the duration of the retreat, particularly in view of continuous sessions, up to 9pm the first evening and all of the following day until 8:30 pm. The Bolger Center has an ideal learning environment, with grounds that facilitate independent work as well as small group interaction. Sit-down private dining is critical for lunchtime speakers/activities. The complete meeting package should contain the following: begins with dinner and includes the following: guestroom accommodations including private bath, in-room coffee service, iron & ironing board, hair dryer, radio-alarm clock, cable television, magnetic lock, & data ports. General session meeting rooms with specified meeting room set-up. Continuous refreshment breaks complete with hot and cold beverages and a wide variety of healthy snacks. Standard audiovisual including two flip charts, overhead projector, slide projector, LCD projector, projection screen, VCR & monitor, podium & microphone, hand held corded microphone, whiteboard, pencils & pads. Guest Services/Concierge to assist with business services, email and computer access. Interested vendors may identify in writing their interest with a capability statement to the Contracting Office prior to the closing date of this notice. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals; however, all responses received, before the closing date of this announcement, will be considered by the Government.
