- The US Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District, intends to award a supply type contract to manufacture tubes which will be used as replacement parts in the rehabilitation of heat exchangers used to cool hydroelectric turbine generators. River wate r runs through the tubes while air passes around the outside. The manufactured tubes are to be delivered to The Dalles Dam, Powerhouse, which is located at exit 88, on Interstate Highway 84, near The Dalles, Oregon. The contract consist of two (2) contract line item numbers (CLINs) of 1,392 tubes each, which are to be manufactured and delivered 120 days after date of contract. Tubes are to be 74 inches long by 5/8 inches (nominal) and are belled to 1.5 inches on one e nd to facilitate removal and replacement without disturbing remaining tubes. Tubing shall be made of 90/10 CuNi conforming to wall thickness of 0.049 inches to a maximum of 0.065 inches. Tubes shall be belled on one end to fit existing tube sheets. The tub ing shall be finned, and the fins shall be copper and shall be soldered. Fins shall be spaced at nine (9) fins per inch. The outside diameter of the fin shall be 1.484 inches and the fin thickness shall be a minimum or 0.012 inches to a maximum of 0.016 in ches. Manufacturers specifications of the proposed finned tubing shall be submitted as part of the bid. The contractor shall prepare all tubes for shipment to the government in such a manner to ensure adequate protection from damage in transit, and shall be responsible for and make good any or all damage that may occur prior to acceptance by the Government at the specified delivery point.
