Description
This announcement amends NRL-Wide BAA 05-01 posted on December 30, 2004 by revising topic BAA 82-05-01 SPACECRAFT TECHNOLOGY- Next Generation Control Moment Gyros (CMGs) Program. Revisions to this topic under this Modification include changes to the desirable features and design considerations for this program topic. This program is structured to demonstrate the viability of a Next Generation CMG via a program of targeted risk reduction testing and analysis which culminates with the build and test of a technology demonstration unit Next Generation CMG. The program hopes to enable the insertion of these Next Generation CMG designs into future spacecraft by taking the level of development to the point that the basic design & lessons learned could be leveraged for a formal flight qualification program by a prime contractor for new or existing programs while not subjecting those programs to prohibitive cost, technical and schedule risk.. The Next Generation CMG would have the same general Black Box performance of existing CMG?s but with the additional goals of: a) greater than or equal to 50% less equivalent mass (1st priority); b) 50% less volume (2nd priority); c) Induced Vibration (IV) less than existing levels (3rd priority); and d) Power: Included In Equivalent Mass (0.3 kg/Watt Quiescent Power). Detailed information on this topic, as well as the complete BAA including initial proposal and formal proposal preparation instructions, technical points of contact for each topic, and evaluation criteria, is available at http://heron.nrl.navy.mil/contracts/baa.htm
