Description
National Institutes of Health (NIH), The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) has a requirement to conduct a follow-up study to evaluate the protection against typhoid fever eight (8) years after the two injections of Vi-rEPA at 2-5 years of age in 1998 and 4 years after one injection at 5-8 years of age in 2002 and the persistence of antibody among these vaccinees. This study will be performed by the National Institute of Hygiene & Epidemiology, 1 Yersin Street, Hanoi 10000, Vietnam in collaboration with Dong Thap Provincial Hospital and the NICHD. The protection will be assessed by comparing the rates of typhoid fever diagnosed at Dong Thap Provincial Hospital from 1998 to 2005 among children in the efficacy trials to that in unvaccinated children of a similar age, e.g., 10-13 year-olds in October 2006 from the adjacent district/town. In order to do this study, access to medical records of all patients from Dong Thap Provincial Hospital is essential and the National Institute of Hygiene & Epidemiology is the best source to achieve this study.
