The purchase of this instrument from Andor Technology, 425 Sullivan Avenue, Suite #3, South Windsor, CT 06074, is requested to conduct fluorescence resonance energy transfer and single molecule fluorescence studies of fluorescently tagged signaling molecules. The studies are focused on determining protein-protein interactions and protein stoichiometry of molecules involved in synaptic transmission. The projected experiments require a camera capable of detecting extremely low fluorescence levels down to the single molecule level with requirements that include 1) at least 1000 x 1000 pixel resolution; 2) highly regulated thermoelectric cooling of -75 to -90 degrees C; 3) on-chip gain to 1000x; 4) quantum efficiency of greater than 90%; 5) dynamic range of 14-16 bits; 6) selectable linear gain; 6) availability of drivers compatible with the Igor Pro software package (Wavemetrics) to ensure compatibility with existing custom software.
