- WOODSTOCK JOB CORPS CENTER SCOPE OF WORK INSTALLATION OF A NEW EIGHT INCH (8) WELL, WELL PUMP, WATER SUPPLY LINE AND ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL WORK The intent of this scope of work is to provide construction services to drill a new eight inch deep well and pump to provide a minimum of 80 GPM of water. This scope is based on a 300ft well. 1.1 Scope of Work: A: This project consists of but is not limited to the installation of a new deep well, pump, associated electrical work and the installation of a two (2) inch supply line to the existing pump house. B: The contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, equipment and services necessary to complete the project in its entirety according to this scope of work. C: The contractor shall supply and install 8 ? steel well casing. D: The contractor shall grout the new well casing. 1.2: Location: A: The project is located at the Woodstock Job Corps Center at 10900 Old Court Rd, Woodstock Md 21163. 1.3: Site Visitations: A: The contractor shall visit the site and familiarize himself with the conditions under which the work will be performed. No allowance will be made for any error on the contractors part for failure to take into account any conditions or circumstances existing at the site which might affect the contemplated work. The fact that a bid is submitted will be taken as evidence that the contractor has full knowledge of the extent and character of the contemplated work and the problems to be encountered in performing same. 1.4: Regulations: A: All work under this contract shall conform with applicable sections of the general specifications for the design of wells of the State of Maryland, Department of the Environment Regulation ( Well Construction ) the National Plumbing Code, Maryland Department of Licensing and Regulations and the National Electrical Code. B: The contractor shall install all sediment control fences and structures as required to conform with all current Maryland Department of the Environment regulations regarding sediment and erosion control. 1.5: Permits: A: The contractor shall, at his own expense, procure all permits, certificates and license required of him by law for the execution of his work. 1.6: Well Pump, Motor and Controls: A: The deep well pump shall be capable of pumping a minimum of eighty (80) GPM against a total dynamic head of 650-feet. B: The pump shall be of the submersible type with built-in lighting protection and 3 phase, 208 volts. C: Pump shall be furnished with a compatible magnetic starter as part of the well pump package. Pump shall be as manufactured by Goulds or approved equal. D: The pump shall be set a minimum distance of 10-feet from the bottom of the well in accordance with COMAR Regulations. E: The contractor shall supply and install a new well controls for the new well and also the existing well. The new controls shall work off the water levels in the existing pre-storage tank located in the Boiler Room in Bldg #9. The new well controls shall have signal lamps too show when the wells are running. 1.7: Electrical Connections: A: The contractor shall tie the new well pump into the existing service from the 2 older wells. 1.8: Pitless Adapter: A: The contractor shall supply and install a pitless adapter in the well casing for connecting the 2 inch vertical well pump discharge line to the 2 inch horizontal discharge line. B: The adapter shall consist of a male to female slide connection which will form a positive seal. C: The adapter shall be brass and attach to the well casing with inner and outer seals, brass collar and nut to insure a positive seal. D: The pitless adapter shall be as manufactured by Martinson or equal. 1.9: Well Vent: A: The contractor shall vent the well by installing a device in the well cap which will prevent the entrance of surface water, dust, insects or other foreign material from entering the well while allowing for pressure changes within the well due to pumping. 1.10: Well Discharge Pipe: A: The vertical discharge pipe extending from the pitless adapter to the well pump shall be 2 inch schedule 40 galvanized steel piping. 1.11: Water Line: A: The water line (horizontal) shall extend from the pitless adapter to existing Pump House and connect to the existing water system piping. B: The contractor shall provide all piping, adapters and fittings as required to make the connection between the pitless adapter and the existing water line in the Pump House. C: The 2 inch water line shall be PVC water service tubing rated at 160 psi operating pressure. Fittings and adapters for connections shall be as recommended by the water service tubing manufacturer. D: The new water line inside the Pump House shall be minimum schedule 40 PVC pipe rated 200 psi working pressure. Fitting shall match pipe requirements. Joints shall be solvent-weld where applicable. The contractor shall provide adapters for connection to various valves, pipe and fitting materials in accordance with pipe manufacturer?s recommendations. E: The valves shall be cleaned of all foreign matter, stuffing boxes tightened, and the valve fully opened and fully closed to ensure that all parts are in working condition before installation. F: The gate valves shall be class 125, all bronze construction, rising stem. Solid wedge gate with suitable adapters for installation in PVC pipe lines. G: The check valves shall be swing check type having a minimum working pressure of 200 psi. H: The contractor shall supply and install all supports and anchors as required to firmly secure the valves, pipe and fittings in the Pump House. 1.12: Testing: A: After the pipe is installed and joints have cured the new pipe line and fittings shall be subjected to a hydrostatic pressure test of 150 psi for a period of one hour. 1.13: Disinfection: A: Following completion of all construction and testing, the well shall be thoroughly disinfected in accordance with the Department of the Environment regulation. 1.14: Excavation, Utility installation and Backfill: A: The contractor shall perform all clearing, grading, excavation and backfill in accordance with the latest Maryland Department of the environment requirements for sediment and erosion control. B: No trench excavation shall be made in advance of the amount of pipe and electrical cable that can be laid in that workday. No excavation shall be left open overnight. C: The area within the confines of the well construction site and utility trench alignment shall be cleared only to the extent necessary to facilitate access and construction. D: All vegetative materials cleared, downed branches, limbs, etc. , shall be removed from the area and disposed of at an off site disposal site. 1.15: Trench Excavation and Backfill: A: The water line trench shall be excavated in a neat, workman like manner with sidewalls as nearly vertical as possible and with as minimal disturbance to adjacent areas and vegetation as possible. B: Water line and well pump electrical lines shall be installed in the same trench. Electrical lines shall be installed a minimum of 4 inches above the water line. Water line and Cables shall be bedded in a minimum of 4 inches of clean sand above and below the lines. C: The trench shall be excavated to a depth necessary to insure a minimum 42 inches of cover to the water line. D: Backfill shall consist of material removed from the trench except that no root matter, marl, debris, or rock 6 inches or larger in any direction, shall be allowed to be replaced as fill. Backfill shall be placed above the coving and bedding and be compacted. E: The contractor shall supply and install an appropriate marking tape over the electric lines. Tape shall be installed in the trench a minimum 6 inches below final grade. F: The top of the trench shall be limed, fertilized, seeded and mulched. 1.16: Demolition/Removal. A: The contractor shall verify location and extent of demolition required to accomplish the work. B: Construction debris must be removed from the site and construction area must be secured to the centers satisfaction at the end of each workday. 1.17: Rules. A: The contractor shall at all times abide by the centers rules and regulations. B: The contractor must meet the Davis Bacon Act Wage Requirements. 1.18: Warranty. A: All materials, services and labor shall be warranted free for a period of one year. B: Well pump motor shall be warranted free for a period of five years. 1.19: Bid Requirement. A: The contractor shall submit their bid in a Labor cost and Material cost format. 1.20: Site Plan. A: See site plan for location of new well.
