Description
The U.S. Army ARDEC is interested in acquiring information on commercially available tripods to ground mount the M2 .50 caliber and MK19 heavy machine guns. This includes the traverse and elevation (T&E) mechanism and applicable carriage and cradle system (or pintle). The goal of this survey is to identify lightweight tripods for heavy machine guns with the potential to replace the current M3 Tripod with possible future procurements as modified non- developmental item (NDI). Specific areas of interest include but are not limited to: weight, collapsed dimensions, deployed width, deployed height, operation with Mission Oriented Protective Posture (MOPP) and cold weather clothing, Into Action Time (ease of deployment and stow), corrosion resistance, adverse environmental conditions, and chemical resistance. The lightweight tripod should weigh considerably less than 44 lbs; the current weight of the M3 Tripod. Performance requirements shall be equal to or better than the current M3 Tripod and T&E mechanism and not interfere or degrade the performance of the M2 or MK19 machine guns. (e.g. modular design, no special tools, easily repairable, low/no maintenance). The mounting systems are desired to be rugged and highly reliable, maximizing weapon elevation/depression/traverse while minimizing potential safety issues. It is further desired that any new mounting configuration be compatible with existing weapon systems and ancillary equipment, including ammunition containers and attached sighting/targeting devices. Interested parties are invited to indicate their interest by providing some or all of the following: specifications, brochures, manuals, demonstration videos, and identification of current customers. In addition companies are encouraged, but not required to submit one (1) tripod bid sample to be used for market survey purposes only; an end use certificate will not be provided. Submission of sample hardware will confirm to the Government the immediate availability of hardware. All information or samples are to be submitted at no cost or obligation to the government. Hardware samples will be returned no later than 180 days upon receipt at no cost to the Government; sample hardware will be returned as tested samples. The above information and / or bid samples should be sent within 30 days of this announcement to: Department of the Army, U.S. Army ARDEC, AMSRD-AAR-AEW-M(D), Bldg 7, ATTN: Mr. Anthony Cautero, Picatinny, NJ 07806-5000. This is a Market Survey for information purposes only, and not a pre- solicitation notice, nor a request for proposals. If a formal requirement is generated at a later date, a pre-solicitation notice will be published. All comments or questions in response to this market survey due no later than 12 September 2006. Correspondence by email is preferred. Send to Email: ryder@pica.army.mil. Phone: 973-724-7220.
