The purpose of this study is to determine if there are global DNA methylation changes in response to folic acid supplementation and if observed changes are genotype and dose dependent. This is an on-going study and the University of Florida is the only source to provide the specific global DNA methylation and critical timeframe for this study deeemed necessary by CDC. utilize DNA samples that were collected in from women in China, where there is no food fortification with folic acid and dietary sources of folate are limited, were given folic acid supplements in varying doses over a 6 month time period in order to determine the optimal folic acid dose. Blood samples were taken at the beginning of the study as well as at 1, 3, 6 and 9 months (3 months post-supplementation). CDC intends to negotiate this requirement with University of Florida under the authority of FAR 6.302-1, HHSAR 306.302-1, and 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1).
