- Description
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Division of Intramural Research (DIR) is seeking sources that can provide on-site management, operations, and professional, technical, and support services to the DIR animal care program. Contractor services will be performed in AAALAC accredited Government-owned or leased laboratory animal facilities and in research laboratories located in the Bethesda/Rockville area of Maryland. Functions include but are not limited to: supervision and management of Contractor staff, veterinary medical assistance, animal care, technical support, data management, cost accounting, cage and environmental sanitation, routine maintenance of animal care equipment and supplies, transportation, logistical, clerical and administrative support. Support is to be provided to animal projects involving the full range of medical research, scientific disciplines, and animal species, which may include: mice, rats, cotton rats, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, rabbits, nonhuman primates, chickens, frogs, and other vertebrates and invertebrates. Although animal populations will vary with time, the following lists the anticipated average daily inventory of laboratory animals to be maintained in NIAID facilities: Mice, 117,900; Rats, 830; Cotton Rats, 190; Hamsters, 340; Guinea Pigs, 420; Gerbils, 250; Rabbits, 152; Primates, 64; Frogs, 20; Ferrets, 54. Approximately 200 contractor personnel, working in eight or more separate animal facilities which range from Animal BioSafety Level 1 (ABSL 1) to ABSL 4, will be required. Care of animals will be in accordance with all current animal welfare regulations and policies. Any potential contractors should respond with a capability statement by June, 1 2006 at 2:00pm EDT. Capability statements must reference similar work that has been performed by the contractor and the dollar value of that work. Potential offerors must indicate business size in their capability statement. All small businesses must demonstrate that they are capable of performing 51% or more of the required services. This is a market survey, not a request for proposals. All questions must be directed, in writing, to Michele DiNatale at dinatalem@niaid.nih.gov.
