- Description
- The SMA Project (http://www.smaproject.org) plans to release a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Development of an Automated SMN Gem Assay Suitable for Medium Throughput Screening for use by the SMA Project in optimizing active compounds. We expect to release the RFP during the week of July 31, 2006. This will be a fast-track proposal solicitation and review; proposals will be due on or about August 21, 2006 and the anticipated award date will be in late September/early October 2006. Interested Offerors should sign up for the SMA Project ListServ (http://www.smaproject.org/list-serv.asp) to receive notice the day the RFP is released. In addition, a notice will be posted in FedBizOpps on the day of release. The RFP and accompanying documents will be available through the ?Solicitations? page of the SMA Project website (http://www.smaproject.org/solicitations.html). The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) launched The SMA Project: A Collaborative Program to Accelerate Therapeutics Development for Spinal Muscular Atrophy in September 2003 to accelerate the process of developing a safe and effective treatment for SMA, a paralyzing neurodegenerative disease. The program funds milestone-driven research contracts focused on the rapid identification of a suitable therapeutic for SMA. Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) is supporting the NINDS in the management of this program. Only responsible offerors who have successful experience in the development of automated Gem or other high content, cell-based imaging assays should submit a proposal for consideration by SAIC.
