Description
The Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense (JPEO-CBD) is researching the market for a device that provides in a self contained, self powered unit of less than one pound in weight, that will display the recommended work/re st times and recommended hydration for individuals in chemical/biological protective gear. The unit must display values that are based upon the units real time measurement of weather conditions and operator inputs of work severity and protective clothing level. The recommended times displayed must be identical to the Army Field Manual 3-11.4 NBC Protection Table C-2. The unit must be able to be operated by personnel wearing Mission Oriented Protective Posture (MOPP) Level IV protective equipment. Table C-2 is reproduced below. Work/Rest Cycles and Water Replacement Guidelines Summary from ARMY FM 3-11.4 Table C-2 Heat Category 1 WBGT 1, 2 Index 78-81.9(F) Light (Easy) Work - Work/Rest4, 5 = No limit / Water(Qt/hr) 3 = ?; Moderate Work - Work/Rest4, 5 = No limit / Water(Qt/hr) 3 = ?; Hard (Heavy) Work - Work/Rest4, 5 = 40/20 min / Water(Qt/hr) 3 = ? F to WBGT in humid climates. 3 Hourly fluid intake should not exceed 1 ? quart, and daily fluid intake should not exceed 12 liters. 4 Rest means minimal physical activity (sitting or standing), accomplished in the shade if possible. The information pertains to acclimated service personnel. 5 The work/rest time and fluid replacement volumes will sustain performance and hydration for at least 4 hours of work in the specified heat category. Individual water needs will vary ?? qt/hr. 1 Wearing all MOPP overgarments (MOPP4) adds 10? F to WBGT index. 2 If wearing body armor, add 5?
