Description
The Library of Congress intends to purchase through sole source from Thoma Inc., 201 Commerce Drive ? Unit #1, Moorestown, NJ, 08057, a custom-built, explosion-proof, constant volume by-pass laboratory chemical hood assembly that will be used in conservation treatments of a broad range of Library collection materials with large quantities of flammable solvents. It is the Library?s understanding that the identified equipment is the only one that is available in the U.S. that is capable of meeting the Library?s critical performance requirement for an explosion-proof laboratory chemical hood that also meets the following needs: It must be a constant volume by-pass fume hood assembly with the hood superstructure having the overall dimensions of 144?W x 41?D x 54-1/4?H; it must have three vertical rising post-less sash panels, a light switch, two-duplex 120 VAC receptacles (one electrical outlet per post), two-tube fluorescent light fixtures, and be pre-wired; it must have a remote control panel-mounted gooseneck mixing faucet with vacuum breaker; it must have a dished stainless steel worksurface with an 84?W x 5?H integral sink with outlet, with the front-to-back dimension to be fabricated as deep as possible and the sink to e located on the right-side of the worksurface; it must have a five-drawer base cabinet of 48?W x 29-3/8?H and two base sink cabinets each of 48?W x 29-3/8?H; apron frames and supports must be mounted on top of base cabinets to support the fume hood and worksurface, there must be support struts as required, and filler panels as required; it must have an airflow monitor and alarm, and all lights the monitor/alarm, and electrical duplexes must be explosion-proof; all valves, valve handles, remote control rods, outlets, electrical boxes and devices, alarm boxes and devices, and cover plates will be pre-mounted on the fume hood superstructure, but will not be pre-piped; the laboratory standard for the materials, construction, and quality of the hood must be based on the SafeAire Laboratory Metal Casework as manufactured by Fisher Hamilton in their standard construction, design, sizes, door configuration, hardware and limited standard finishes; and it must be installed by the manufacturer. Any other company that, at the time of application, (1) is either legally incorporated as a U.S. business entity or capable of demonstrating through its business plan its intention to be fully incorporated as a U.S. business, and (2) believes it can manufacture a custom-built explosion-proof laboratory chemical hood that can meet all the above performance requirements can apply to the Library for consideration.
