Description

The U. S. Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) proposes to negotiate on a sole source basis, under the authority of 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1), with Physik Instruments of Auburn, Massachusetts for a digital piezo controller and nanopositioning scanning stage. This equipment must be compatible with the existing microscope design and software already in the NIST Lab. The critical specifications are as follows: 1) resonance frequency of >900 Hz in all 3 axes; 2) must be closed loop and use capacitive sensors to achieve a linearity of 0.03%; 3) distance range of 45 microns in the horizontal axes and 15 microns in the vertical dimension; 4) must be controlled by a digital controller with 20 bits of internal resolution, allowing for 0.1 control of the stage position; 5) form factor and control software (both IEEE488 and high speed parallel bus) must be identical to three other closed loop PZT stages (Physik Instrumente P-517 series) already owned by the lab ? thus guaranteeing interoperability with existing hardware and software; and 6) must have a large central opening (>66 x 66MM) to allow for a microscope objective to get through. This synopsis is issued for information only. No competitive solicitation is planned. Information submitted in response to this notice will be used solely to determine whether or not use of competitive procedures to fulfill this requirement would be in the Government's best interest and must address qualifications pertinent to this requirement.
