Description
The National Cancer Institute (NCI), Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG), Radiation Epidemiology Branch (REB) plans to procure on a sole source basis with Radiation Research Society, 810 E 10th St., Lawrence, KS 66047 to publish a 194 page special supplement to Radiation Research (the official publication of the society). This supplement is monograph describing radiation dosimetry methods applied to epidemiological studies previously, or now being conducted within REB. The goals of the dosimetry monograph are to introduce readers to an array of dosimetric methods and applications that have been developed to reconstruct radiation exposures for epidemiologic studies. REB intends to fill a void in the technical literature by describing these methods in terms understandable to epidemiologists, dosimetrists and statisticians, so that these research tools can be used by other members of the research community. The objectives of the monograph are to: 1) Describe dosimetry methods that have been developed to reconstruct radiation exposures for epidemiologic studies conducted by the REB; 2) Make research methods available for use by the research community; and 3) Promote dosimetry work used by REB. Radiation Research publishes articles directed toward the research community and to readers who would have an interest in the dosimetry topics outlined in the planned monograph. Radiation Research is a unique journal in the field of radiation science, because it targets researchers who would be interested in both epidemiology and dosimetry. By publishing these papers as a "special" supplement, Radiation Research will distribute the publication to its approximately 1,800 subscribers. Radiation Research Society is the only known vendor to the NCI end-user that publishes a journal that will reach the targeted audience. The journal that the Radiation Research publishes is directed to the research community of radiation dosimetrists and radiation epidemiologists who would have an interest in the dosimetery topics outlined in the planned monograph. Radiation Research accepted the articles for review with the understanding that the same articles had not been published previously and that the articles have not been submitted for publication to other journals for review. This is not a solicitation for competitive quotations. However, if any interested party believes it can meet the entire above requirement, they may submit a statement of capabilities. All information furnished shall be in writing and must contain sufficient detail to allow the NCI end-user to determine if it can meet the requirements of this synopsis. This acquisition will be processed under FAR Part 12 ? Acquisition for Commercial Items. An original and one copy of the capability statements must be received in the Contracting Office by 3 PM EDT (local Washington, D.C. time) on June 22, 2006. Faxed and emailed capability statements are NOT authorized. All questions must be in writing and may be emailed to Debbie Moore at dm170b@nih.gov or faxed (301) 402-4513. It is the vendor?s responsibility to call (301) 402-4509 and verify that questions were received. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
