Description

The US Fish and Wildlife Servie intends to award a sole source procurement to Alaska Department of Fish and Game to collect up to 3,000 cloacal samples from the fall sport harvest of migratory game birds and other non-sprot harvested birds in Alaska (Mendenhall Wetlands, Delta Junction, Palmer Hay Flats, and Cook inlet areas). This collection project will include the collection of samples to be used by the Government to detrmine possible H5N1 avian flu carriers from birds in accordance with a Government mandated preparation program being conducted in cooperation with several other Government agencies. Alaska Department of Fish and Game will respond to mortality events by assisting field investigations and providing veterinarian oversight to calls to the State of Alaska and USFWS Bird Hotline. Sampling efforts require trained personnel that can collect samples using proper safety precautions. Collection of required data to be utilized by the Governemnt will be the responsibility of the contractor during this project. All samples collected will be shipped to the USFWS Regional Headquarters in Anchorage, Alaska in sealed deep freeze storage containers where Federal biologists will evaluate findings and respond to human health questions related to avian influenza. The pending awarded contract shall include one Base Year begining approximately July 6, 2006 and running through June 30, 2007, with the Government's option to extend through three additional Option Periods. Total period of performance shall not exceed five (5) years. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals and the Governemnt does not intend to review or accept proposals received. Award for this project sahll be made 30 days following the posting of this notice. See Numbered Note 22.
