- The US Army ARDEC is conducting a market survey to identify potential sources for a spotlight to be mounted on various weapon platforms, including the M2 0.50cal Browning Machine Gun (BMG), M240 7.62mm Medium Machine Gun, and M249 5.56mm Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW). The spotlight shall employ Xenon Metal-Halide High Intensity Discharge (HID) technology or equivalent. All high voltage hazards shall be shielded from the user during operation and interrupted during maintenance. The spotlight specifications are as follows: (1) Minimum output of 3000 lumens at 35/50 Watts with field-replaceable bulb rated at a minimum of 500 hours (2) Color temperature between 4000K and 6500K (3) Maximum fixed beam divergence of 9 degrees; preferred remote beam divergence adjustment from wide mode (10 to 20 degrees) to narrow mode (0.1 to 2 degrees) (4) Minimum detection range of 800m; preferred range of 1800m (5) Power input of 12VDC at less than 5.0Amps (RMS, steady state) (6) Hermetically sealed for water intrusion (7) Rugged and corrosion resistant (8) Maximum light tube dimensions of 4.5D x 8.0L in (9) Maximum weight of 5 lbs (10) Minimum operating temperature range of -25??F to 140??F In order to adapt a commercial spotlight for military use with the above weapons systems, several modifications will be required. Any contrct that may result from this market survey will require the flexibility for the following adjustments to the spotlight: (1) Shock immunity of 400-500G with time duration of 0.7 to 1.1ms along longitudinal axis. This shock requirement is consistent with the shock and vibration profile for the heavy and medium machineguns. (2) Attachment to MIL-STD-1913 rail (3) Zero adjustment to bore axis (4) Remote pressure-activated control switch (5) Interconnection to various external power sources: - Cigarette lighter - BA-5590 - BB-390 B/U (6) Removable infrared filter (7) Replaceable cords with length adapted to above identified weapon systems (8) Strobe mode Interested contractors shall provide a description of their product(s) along with other available information specifications, brochures, manuals and other technical data to: U.S. Army TACOM-Picatinny , ATTN: Teresa Leap, Contract Specialist, The Joint Armaments Contracting Center (JACC) AMSTA-AQ-APJ, Building 9, Picatinny Arsenal, N.J. 07806-5000 EMAIL tleap@pica.army.mil NO TELEPHONE INQUIRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.
