- Description
- The purpose of this modification is to correct the website link to the previous solicitation notice. Please see the correct link below. THIS IS A COPY OF A LETTER SENT TO FIRMS WHICH PREVIOUSLY RESPONDED TO RFI DCCA-060024. OTHER INTERESTED PARTIES ARE INVITED TO RESPOND TO THIS NOTICE. Dear Sir or Madam: Thank you for your interest in NSF Sources Sought Notice DCCA-060024, Ice-Breaking Services in Antarctica. This Request for Information (RFI) is on the internet and may be viewed at: http://www.fbo.gov/spg/NSF/DCCA/CPO/DCCA%2D060024/listing.html Your input will help inform our discussions regarding the future of the U.S. polar icebreaking fleet. In parallel, the National Academies of Science has constituted a special committee to review this issue and provide advice to the Government. The website for that review may be viewed at: http://www8.nationalacademies.org/cp/projectview.aspx?key=173 The RFI you responded to concerned icebreaking services. Based on information gained from wide-ranging discussions on this topic, NSF now sees merit in seeking information concerning a complete re-supply package ? for example, mated icebreakers and cargo/fuel supply vessels that can work in close tow configuration. We may issue an RFI to that end but in the meantime, we invite your expression of interest in providing one or more aspects of such a system, and/or expressions of interest for teaming arrangements to implement such a system. The package should include icebreaking with delivery of fuel, containers and break bulk to McMurdo Station, Antarctica, as well as the retrograde of materials from McMurdo Station to the U.S. The nominal annual requirements are identified below and in the attached spread sheets. Fuel (gallons) o AN-8 3.5 million o JP-5 3.0 million o Gasoline 250 thousand Containers (TEU): 600 Break Bulk (Pounds): 1.5 million Retrograde o 500 TEU o 500,000 lbs break bulk We would appreciate receiving responses by 4:00 PM on June 30, 2006. However, we should advise you that we are seeking information only. At present, we have not determined when, or if, we will seek these services. Sincerely, Original Signed Jillian M.
