The first is the design, development and implementation of new technology and processing equipment in the propellant manufacturing and production technologies. This includes but is not limited to solventless and solvent propellant manufacturing and nitrocellulose manufacturing processes. The solventless area will emphasize shear roll mill and iso-static pressing technologies. The solvent area will incude single, double and triple base propellant manufacturing processes focousing on the combined water/air dry operations. The nitrocellulose area will focus on refiner and pressure boiling technologies. The second area is the design, demonstration, and equipment supply of melt pour and cast cure high explosive (HE) loading processes for medium and large caliber munitions. The contractor will design and demonstrate state-of-the-art technologies in the areas of loading, mixing, melting, controlled cooling, and finishing; all with an emphasis on automated processes and controls.
