Description
The T-AO 187 Class Fleet Oilers, Henry J. Kaiser Class were built in three (3) flights, with the first vessel delivered in December 1985 and the last in November 1995. These vessels were built to ABS Rules and are compliant with commercial Rules and Regulations. The T-AO vessels are referred to as a Fleet Oilers, but their mission is to support vessels at sea with fuel, food and other staples, which are transferred between a Fleet Oiler and up to two vessels side-by-side while underway. MSC has upgraded the bridge and navigation systems of the T-AO vessels with new systems and components throughout the years to maintain compliance with commercial Rules and Regulations and to take advantage of technology to help our mariners. These upgrades were single-system installations and were therefore not integrated with existing systems or capable of utilizing the new equipment?s design capabilities. Furthermore, the installations were not uniform among the vessels or area commands, and in many cases the systems are not from the same makers. MSC intends to upgrade the entire bridge, which will require the removal of some systems, relocation of others, and installation of new or up to date systems. A contractor will design the bridge upgrade at some point in the future. Before the design effort begins, MSC wants to capture what?s presently on the T-AO 187 Class Vessels and an overview of how the new systems will be integrated ? that?s the purpose of this requirement.
