- Description
- In support of the Small Tactical Electric Power (STEP) Program and on behalf of the Program Manager-Mobile Electric Power (PM-MEP), the US Army Research, Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM), Communication and Electronics, RD&E Center (CERDEC ), Command and Control Directorate (C2D), Army Power Division, Power Generation Branch, Fort Belvoir, VA is performing a market survey of composite materials that have the potential to replace the existing aluminum skid base on the 3 kW Tactical Quiet Gene rator (TQG.) The PM-MEP is interested in reducing the overall system weight of the 3 kW TQG. One area of interest is the use of new composite materials to replace the metal in the generator frame and skid base. The current skid base is constructed of Aluminum 5052-H32, 0.160 or 0.125 thick and weighs 37.7 lbs. The skid includes two (2) fork pockets, six (6) carrying handles, and four (4) tie-down loops. The measurements of the existing skid are 34.75 (L) by 2 7.76 (W) by 8.50 (T). The CERDEC Power Generation Branch is interested in obtaining White Papers, not exceeding 10 pages in length, describing the contractors experience in design, development, fabrication and test of composite materials, detailed information about the recomme nded materials and corresponding manufacturing processes, and a Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) unit cost for potential future government procurements.
