- Description
- The U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL) is developing preliminary plans to fund a new Collaborative Technology Alliance (CTA) on Advanced Microsystems. This Alliance will be designed to address some of the fundamental scientific and technological un derpinnings which will enable the deployment of microsystems, such as micro air vehicles, micro ground vehicles, and unattended ground sensors on the battlefield. In order for ARL to explore these scientific opportunities and to fully comprehend the relat ed scientific and technical areas, an open workshop will be held at the Radisson Governors Inn in Research Triangle Park, NC (http://www.radisson.com/researchtrianglenc) beginning at 9:00 AM on Monday, January 30, 2006, with an anticipated ending time of late afternoon Tuesday, January 31, 2006. The workshop will consist of technical sessions in the areas of (1) microsystems integration, (2) integrated processing, (3) microbionic aeromechanics and ambulation, (4) miniature power and energy generation, and (5) microelectronics. Interested parties are encouraged to submit articles and/or briefings for presentation consideration. Briefings are limited to no more than five slides, and all submissions should be electronically sent, no later than January 23, 2 006, to Ms. Heather Gatta (GattaH@battelle.org). Attendance is not required for article submission nor for any participation in any subsequent Advanced Microsystems Program announcement. Submissions should indicate clearly the technical session the prese ntation or article most fully addresses. The presentation or article should address technical barriers in the area of microsystems, the capabilities enabled if these barriers are resolved, and potential approaches to addressing these barriers. To insure broad coverage in a limited amount of time, no more than two (2) presentations from a single department or branch and no more than three (3) presentations from a single organization will be allowed. It is the presenters responsibility to ensure that all material that is presented is approved for public release by the organization that funded the research. For general questions about the conference including hotel registration and submission of articles, please contact Ms. Gatta (GattaH@battelle.org, 410- 306-8651).
