Description

The Program Manager for Light Tactical Vehicles proposes to negotiate a new firm, fixed price contract with AM General Corporation to engineer, integrate and install armor kits for test as part of the PEO CS&CSS Long Term Armor Strategy (LTAS). This requirement supports needed improvements to the M1151 and M1152 Enhanced Capacity vehicle (ECV) HMMWV to install an integrated flexible armor solution in new production vehicles. The M1151 is the replacement vehicle for the M1025A2 Armament Carrier HMMWV while the M1152 is the new utility HMMWV, replacing the M1097A2 for the Army. A need exists for long range improvements in the design of armor protection of tactical wheeled vehicles used to supply and support advancing troops serving in the role of occupying forces during wartime and in civil disaster environments. This effort will result in completion of production designs and a Level III Technical Data Package (TDP) that will allow for integration and procurement of armor protection as kits to vehicles on the original equipment manufacturers' (OEM) production lines and to the Army's vehicle RECAP plans. Sets of applique kits for field expedient responses to changing operational conditions will also be developed. This is a sole source effort to AM General Corporation. Numbered Note 22 applies.
