- Description
- The T-AO 187 Class Fleet Oilers, Henry J. Kaiser Class were built in three (3) flights, with the first vessel delivered in the December 1985 and the last of this class in the November 1995. The final 3 vessels were delivered with double hull construction. These vessels were built to ABS Rules and are compliant with commercial Rules and Regulations. The T-AO vessels are referred to as a Fleet Oilers, but their mission is to support vessels at sea with fuel, food and other staples. These are transferred while each vessel is underway by a number of means. The transfers are done between the Fleet Oilers and up to two vessels side-by-side while underway. The Fleet Oilers provide a unique mission support to the Navies of the world. MSC has upgraded the bridge and navigation systems with new systems and components throughout the years to maintain our compliance with the Rules and Regulations and take advantage of technology to help our mariners. These upgrades were done through MSC?s alteration process as single system installations and were therefore not integrated with existing systems or capable of utilizing their design capabilities. Furthermore, the installations were not uniform among the vessels or area commands. In many cases the systems are not from the same makers. MSC intends to upgrade the entire bridge, which will require the removal of some systems, relocation of others, and installation of new or up to date systems. It is intended to have a contractor develop pre-solicitation information on a number of T-AO 187 Class vessels to facilitate a comprehensive design to achieve an approved ergonomic bridge design. Prior to the commencement of the design effort, MSC desires to capture what is presently on the T-AO 187 Class Vessels and an overview of how the new system shall be integrated.
