Description
The INL has developed a small reliable, multiple-use, self-contained timed firing device capable of initiating multiple size shock-tubes, and conventional blasting caps, which facilitates the disruption of improvised explosive devices (IED). This design is cost effective, can be placed into operation in less than one minute, several safeguards to prevent premature initiation, weather resistant, and weighs 6.2 ounces. The TTFD design is rectangular (2.5? x 5? x 1.2?) self-contained electronic timing device that is capable of initiating a standard shock tube or 2 ohm blasting cap when the count reaches zero. The connector for electric blasting is an insulation displacement type connector supporting either a 20ga wire, solid or stranded, or a stranded 18ga wire. The TTFD has a four digit, seven-segment, LED display, which is adjustable for minutes and seconds. The range is from 59 minutes and 59 seconds [59.59], to a minimum of 00 minutes and 15 seconds [00.15]. By default, at power on the time is set to 02 minutes and 30 seconds [02.30]. The countdown begins when an arm key is removed, and stops when it is replaced. The INL is soliciting a written indication of interest from industry partners interested in a license agreement for the purpose of manufacturing and commercializing this technology. Interested parties should respond by December 16, 2005. Interested parties should send a description of their company and their ability to commercialize this technology to the contact listed below. Any questions or inquiries should be directed to the contact listed below.
