Description
The U.S. ARMY TACOM PICATINNY has a requirement for work consisting of providing but not limited to studies, development, research, management, and execution of projects, programs, and training to support manufacturing technology related to Army Weapon systems with a concentration directed towards manufacturing of cannon, gun, and mortar tubes. Benet Weapons Laboratory has a long standing history in the development of weapon system components such as cannon tubes. Projects and programs will support the identification and advancement of the state of the art in materials and manufacturing technologies associated with the production of armaments and weapon system components. Technologies and materials of particular interest are those associated with making components lighter, less expensive, more rapidly, more reliable with longer service life, and with increased surviveability from adverse environments both natural and hostile threats Projects may include studies of manufacturing models aimed at improving production of components both in terms of quality, cost, and cycle time and performance; lighter weight materials e.g. composites, ceramics, mmc???s; metals such as titanium; manufacturing technologies such as machining, joining, bonding, et al; coatings and surface modification techniques such as plasma spray, superfine finishing, laser and aqua peening, et al; repair and 3-d fabrication technologies such as laser additive manufacturing; testing and quality assurance technologies to include mechanical and nondestructive testing; sensor technologies such as monitoring materials and components esp. cannon tubes being manufactured or inservice; rapid prototyping such as stereo lithography and laser additive technology where price may be independent of quantity. Benet is interested in the development of other approaches, technologies, planning, scheduling, tracking etc. which may not be explicitly mentioned but which help to create or achieve the vision for the future. Communication activities to support training and facilitate workshops and meetings to include preparation and presentation of briefing and subject matter materials developed from research, studies etc. The U.S. ARMY TACOM PICATINNY intends to Award this Sole Source to Nextech Corporation on the Authority: 15 U.S.C. 657f (a).
