- CE/MHE Add on Armor (AoA) Crew Protection THREAT level information: The U.S. Army is looking for an ARL Protection Class III threat protection. Page 14, table 5 of the ARL document clearly outlines the threat. PERFORMANCE SPECIFICATIONS FOR BOTH OPAQUE AND TRANSPARENT ARMOR: (1) Threshold ballistic protection is 7.62mm x 63 Hard Steel Core Armor Piercing (AP) IAW ARL Protection Class III. This threat will be represented by 7.62mm APM2 as the test projectile at muzzle velocity (2765 fps). (2) Threshold artillery protection is 20mm FSP (TNT fill) at burst/muzzle velocity (3500 fps) IAQ ARL Protection Class III. MULTI-HIT: Objective of any armor solution should be to demonstrate realistic multi-hit performance. The offeror shall identify the multi-hit performance expected of their system. Page 15, table 4 of the ARL document shows multi-hit impact requirements for vehicula r armor, ranging from 27-54 mm depending on the composition of the armor.
