- Description
- The U.S. Army RDECOM -ARDEC is conducting a Market Survey to identify potential sources of supply for polyester with monomeric styrene that effects cross linking on curing, resulting a co-polymer material (used as a bonding agent) for use in munitions. The curing can be greatly speeded by adding curing agents (catalyst). The curing can be done either at room temperature or by heating. Following are detailed specifications for the polyester which we are seeking. Desirable and suggested properties for product are: color -clear, light straw; specific gravity is 1.1; Viscosity (at 77oF) Brookfield, poises, 4-5 (Brookfield Model RVF, spindle #1, 20 R.P.M.); flexible strength is 15K-18K psi, flex modulus is 550K-600K psi, tensile strength is 8K-9K psi, tensile modulus is 550K-600K psi, tensile elongation is 2-21/2 %. Curing Characteristics (for advisory): Gel time at 80oC for100g sample, 0.5% benzoyl Peroxide (or equivalent), min: 17-20 SPI gel time, min.: 4 1/2- 6 SPI time to peak temp., min.: 7 1/2 - 9 SPI peak exotherm, oF: 330-360 Storage life must be 90 days or higher at room temperature with and without catalyst and accelerator and a minimum of 30 days at higher temperature (52C). The product must have low hygroscopicity values (e.g., gain up to 7mg (in mg/g) after exposure at RT and humidity over a period of 30 days). Respondents should have sufficient production capacity to supply the U.S. Army inimum quantity of 5000 pounds per year. Interested firms which believe that they have capability to manufacture the product exactly as described above, or have the capability to furnish a product closely meeting these characteristics, shall provide the U.S. Army a summary of information on the product and its applications, as well as any details stating the differences between our specifications and the specifications of product they can supply. . A follow-up detailed questionnaire may be provided to survey respondents and on-site visits may be performed to review the manufacturing facility.and its capabilities. Interested firms should provide the nature of the business (small/large) and where the manufacturing facility is located. The information must be submitted within 30 calendar days from the date of this publication to: U.S. Army RDECOM-ARDEC AMSRD-AAR-AEE-W, ATTN: Mr. Gary Chen Armament Engineering and Technology Center, Bldg. 1510 Picatinny Arsenal, NJ 07806-5000 Email: /gchen@pica.army.mil For any technical question, please contact Mr Gary Chen at 973-724-2663 This Market Survey is for planning purpose only and should not be construed as a request for proposal or as an obligation on the part of the U.S. Government. The U.S. Government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this Market Survey or otherwise pay for information solicited. The information you provide will only be used by the U.S. Army in developing its acquisition approach for future co-polymeric material requirements.
