- Description
- MARCORSYSCOM is requesting information regarding the purchase of up to 250 hydraulic power systems. This announcement constitutes a Request for Information (RFI) for planning purposes; However, a Request for Proposal (RFP) will be issued immediately after receiving feedback from industry. The intent of this RFI is to assist MARCORSYSCOM in conducting market research before issuing the RFP. The hydraulic power system shall be formed by the combination of both a Mechanically and Electrically Driven Hydraulic Pump. Vendors interested in responding to this RFI shall provide a one to two page overview statement addressing the following: SCOPE: A Mechanically Driven Hydraulic Pump. The mating characteristics of the Mechanically Driven Hydraulic Pump (mounting flange, couplings, etc) shall match the existing M1A1 Hydraulic Pump. The M1A1 engine will not be changed or modified to fit the proposed pump. The offeror shall ensure that the proposed pump will fit within the current physical constraints of the existing M1A1 engine compartment and not exceed the space claim of the current M1A1 hydraulic pump. An Electrically Driven Hydraulic Pump must be compatible with the current electrical system of the M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tank (MBT). Technical sheets for the M1A1 alternator, and batteries will be furnished upon request. The electrically driven hydraulic pump and its associated hardware will be located in the crew compartment and shall pose no safety hazard to the crew of the Expeditionary Assault Bridge (EAB). This purchase description establishes the performance requirements for the Hydraulic Power Sy! stem. The Electrically Driven Hydraulic Pump shall be provided with all essential components to ensure safe and proper operation. Intended Use: The system will provide an enhanced capability for the EAB to launch the Military Load Class (MLC) 60/70 bridge in combat and non-combat environments. The EAB is an upgrade to the existing Armored Vehicle Launched Bridge (AVLB), where the M1A1 MBT chassis will replace the current AVLB M-60 tank chassis. Characteristics: All physical characteristics of the hydraulic system shall be compliant with best commercial practices. The following are the required performance characteristics of the Mechanically Driven Hydraulic Pump: Maximum Operating Speed = 6,000 rpm Normal Operating Speed = 3,500 rpm Maximum Torque Demand (at all speeds) = 420 in-lbf Maximum System Operating Pressure = 4,400 psi Suggested Pump Flow At Normal Operating Speed: Pump Flow @ 4,000 psi = 9.5 gpm Pump Flow @ 2,000 psi = 18.9 gpm Horse Power Compensated Also, please note that the pump will be operating (as in producing oil under pressure) at 3,500 rpm during launch evolutions, but will turn at zero displacement (ie. no oil flow) at a maximum of 6,000 rpm. The following are the required performance characteristics of the Electrically Driven Hydraulic Pump: Voltage ? 28 Volts DC (24 Volt Nominal System) Max Current ? 535 Amperes Space Claim ? 10 cubic feet or less Suggested Pump Flow: Pump flow @ 4,000 psi = 8.0 gpm Pump flow @ 2,000 psi = 16.0 gpm Provide a programmable variable speed control that will allow a ?soft start? of the motor that allows the motor to come up to full operating speed in 5 to 8 seconds. A shunt trip style circuit breaker should be provided to allow emergency shutdown of the pump and overcurrent protection. Minimum life of the system is to be 100 hours at maximum discharge pressure. The complete system shall be capable of providing a steady system hydraulic flow of 34 gpm @ 2000 psi, and 17.5 gpm at 4000 psi, while operating at the normal operating speed of the Mechanical Hydraulic Pump. Responses may be submitted either electronically or mail to the address provided below. Interested firms are requested to respond by 8:00am (EST) August 2, 2005 stating their business size, NAICS, and identifying a corporate point of contact. Earliest possible response is encouraged. Responses will be reviewed and additional information may be requested from individual vendors if desired by the Government. This RFI does not constitute a commitment from the Government. The Government will not assume liability for costs incurred by any respondent for any data offered in response to this RFI. Send response via email: stefanie.conway@usmc.mil or by mail- COMMANDER, Attn: Ms.Stefanie Conway, CTQ, MARCORSYSCOM, 2200 Lester Street, VA, 22134. If you have any additional questions, please email or call Stefanie Conway at 703-432-3701.
