- NASA/KSC plans to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the following Commercial item/services: Solution Spinning system with the following specifications: 1. Solution handling and feeding system. A pressurized sample holding tank, sample container, pressure indicator and relief valve. Solution metering pump with accurate speed controller. Feed tubing and spinning head which will hold the spinning die (spinnerett). 2. Spinning bath (coagulation bath). An insulated, stainless steel tank 10" wide, 10" deep and 40" long with insulated cover. A motor driven pull roll located at the exit of the tank and adjustable plastic idler rolls to guide the fiber through the tank. A heating system so the coagulation solution will be circulated through a stainless steel heat exchanger which is heated by a hot water unit. All items will be mounted on a steel frame with the heating system located below the tank. 3. Wash Tank. A stainless steel tank 8" wide by 10" deep and 40" long. Connections for supply and drain located in the tank. A steel frame which will also support the take-up roll. 4. Take-up. A stainless steel roll 4" diameter with a 4" face. A DC motor and drive to drive the roll at set speeds up to 30 meters per minute. (This roll will be located at the end of the wash tank support stand.) This procurement is a total small business set-aside. See Note 1. The NAICS Code and Size Standard are 423830 and 100, respectively. There is no formal solicitation. Proposal must be technically acceptable. Vendors are requested to send technical and pricing information for evaluation. All responsible sources may submit a proposal which shall be considered by the agency. An ombudsman has been appointed. See NASA Specific Note "B". Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing by mail, fax, or email to Mr. Rob Wolfinger not later than 5 PM KSC local tine on Friday, July 15, 2005.
