Description
REQUEST FOR INFORMATION The Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Patuxent River, MD is seeking information for potential sources and no-cost product samples of commercially available spacer fabrics or meshes or narrows. This request is for INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY. PRODUCT REQUIREMENTS: Spacer fabric/meshes/narrows are sought to enable rapid inflation of garment bladders even under heavy compression, such as that from harnesses, load bearing straps, body folds, and seated weight. Air flow under 10.0 PSI compression should be at least 80% of the uncompressed airflow. Spacer fabrics/meshes/narrows should be between 0.13 to 0.26 inches thick initially; 0.020 to 0.040 during 1-minute compressions of 10.0 pounds per square inch, and 0.10 to 0.23 inches thick after five compression cycles. A compression cycle shall consist of 1 minute of compression at 10.0 PSI and five minutes of recovery. Spacer fabric/meshes should have high air permeability with a minimum of 120 liters per minute. High heat and flame resistance is desirable but not mandatory. The fabric/mesh/narrow should be dimensionally stable after home laundering (hot cycle) and during hot storage conditions. Hot storage conditions shall be simulated by exposing a 24 by 24 inch sample for 30 minutes at 200 degrees F + 5 deg F with 12 hours cooling time. After exposure, the fabric should have shrunk no more than 4.0% in the warp and 2.0% in the fill. Fabrics and meshes should be 45 inches wide and be able to be cut with sharp blades into 1.5-inch widths and maintain that width during routine cut/sew operations without unraveling more than 1/16 inch from each cut edge. Narrows should have a finished width of 1 to 1.5 inches. Fabric/meshes/narrows should have soft edges that will not abrade or puncture the bladder fabric. Fabrics/meshes/narrows should be flexible, bendable, and pliable so that body movements are not limited. This announcement is neither a Request for Quote/Proposal, nor does the Government intend to pay for any information/items submitted in response to this synopsis. Any qualified sources may be listed on Source Control Drawings for such items as military anti-G suits, ventilation garments, and life preservers. Product samples and related data are to be shipped to NAWCAD contracts office no later than 30 days after the post date of this synopsis. Interested sources should send the product samples and related data to DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY, NAVAL AIR SYSTEMS COMMAND, AIRCRAFT SUPPORT CONTRACTS DEPARTMENT (AIR 2.5.1.3), ATTN: Lisa Wilson, Code 2.5.1.3.2.5, 21983 Bundy Road Unit 7 Bldg 441, Patuxent River, MD 20670-1127. Written responses should be submitted no later than 30 days after the date of this synopsis and reference this synopsis number on both the mailing envelope as well as on all enclosed documents. Interested sources shall state company size. Please address all technical questions to Wendy Todd, wendy.todd@navy.mil. One-yard product samples and specification sheets will be required from all interested sources at no cost to the Government. Proprietary data MUST be marked on a page-by-page basis, and will be kept confidential and protected where so designated. Interested sources shall state whether their sample is available commercially, minimum yardage required for purchase, cost per yard and lead-time. Data and samples WILL NOT be returned. This synopsis does not commit the Government to awarding a contract. This synopsis is for market research only and any procurement resulting from this announcement will be published separately on the Federal Business Opportunities website.
