Description

The contractor shall furnish all labor, materials, equipment, and personnel necessary to remodel an existing 14,000 S.F area (approx. 9,200 Lab area and 4,800 Office area) on the 4th Floor of Building 1 for Laboratory Services. Project includes, but is not limited to, demolition of existing and construction of new Clinical Pathology and Anatomic Pathology at North & South Wing, including a temporary laboratory for the interim construction period. The construction is planned to be completed in several phases. The modernization of space includes new walls, ceiling, flooring, lighting, electrical and mechanical systems. Project also includes connecting all office areas and laboratory work benches with utilities (mechanical, electrical, fire protection, plumbing, communication and data systems, security systems, etc.) and providing a pneumatic tube system connection to the first floor. Laboratory workbench furniture shall be furnished and delivered by separate contractor; but the connection of all utilities is planned to be done by construction contractor. Limited remodeling of office areas (East & West Wing) to include removal of existing workbenches; minimal remodeling of existing spaces, including: walls, lockers, telephone and data lines, patching and painting of all affected areas, and limited mechanical and electrical work. Construction of this project will be phased to continue current operations around the construction area in a healthcare environment. VA shall perform abatement of all asbestos containing materials (ACM) under a separate Contract. This requirement is an 8(a) competitive set-aside, geographically restricted for firms serviced by the Small Business Administration (SBA), Illinois District Office. It is determined that competition will be limited to 8(a) firms serviced by the Illinois District Office. All other firms are deemed ineligible to submit offers. The SBA, Chicago District Office, shall provide the VA a list of all qualified Illinois firms for participation in this procurement process. Issue date is on or about June 20, 2005. Award is subject to the availability of funds.
