- Description
- Stevens Institute of Technology, Office of Sponsored Research, is researching breakthrough techniques which have recently shown promise to effectively determine the individual location of sensors within a sensor network. The Acoustic Center of Excellence has been tracking progress that the university has made recently, and finds particular promise in the Multiple Access Control MAC) methodologies. Using novel multiple access control schemes (MAC), it is possible to separate multiple users which may be communicating simultaneous streams in an ad hoc network. The university is considered uniquely qualified apply MAC technologies to the specific problem of Army distributed sensor systems, modify algorithms as required, and perform limited prototype testing using actual communications systems. A sole source effort with Stevens Institute of Technology will provide the government with significantly improved algorithms and methodologies for performing a wide range of future prototype demonstration tests for distributed sensors and will significantly advance the performance as well as the fielding potential of future distributed sensor network systems. See Numbered Note 22.
