Description
The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Panama City, FL, (NSWC PC) intends to solicit competitive proposals from foreign sources, under the Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) Foreign Comparative Test (FCT) program, for the detailed design, fabrication and delivery of an LCAC propeller shroud made from composite materials. These items will be evaluated under the LCAC FCT program as possible candidates for use on the LCAC. The LCAC Composite Shroud would be comprised of a cylindrical airfoil surrounding the propeller that provides structural support for the propeller and associated shafting via five aerodynamically designed stators connecting the propeller centerbody to the shroud inner skin. The shroud interfaces with various other LCAC equipments including the LCAC rudders, which are mounted on the aft end of the shroud. The shroud application is weight sensitive and weight will be given special consideration in the final selection process. The shroud operates in an extreme! ly harsh marine environment including constant spray of salt and sand; therefore, design and construction must account for this environment. This requirement may result in possible multiple contracts subject to availability of funding. NSWC PC intends to provide access to an LCAC prior to release of the solicitation starting the week of 04 April 2005 through 09 May 2005. Submit visit requests using the visit request form to Mr. Richard Childress, Code E31, e-mail richard.childress@navy.mil.
