- The Chugach National Forest requires redevelopment of the Childs Glacier Recreation Area on the Cordova Ranger District. Specific work includes, but is not limited to these items: A. Demolition and removal of existing vault toilets and miscellaneous site improvements including wood wheelstops and bollards, campfire rings, campsite markers, bulletin boards, wood sign-in booth, and miscellaneous signs. Work includes disinfection and abandonment of existing septic vaults and salvage of existing boulders for use in the new construction. B. Site preparation for new construction. Work includes roadway obliteration, clearing and grubbing, selective clearing and limbing/bucking of removed trees. C. Earthwork consisting of excavations, embankments and fills, trenching and backfill, and subgrade establishment. D. Construction of new crushed surface roadways and camp spurs. Work includes construction of new pipe culverts. E. Construction of crushed surface camp pads and trails, including reconstruction of existing camp pads. F. Miscellaneous site furnishings, including but not necessarily limited to, picnic tables, campfire rings, campsite markers, timber curbs, signs and boulders. G. Construction of new potable water well system with hand pump. Miscellaneous metal fabrications, including fabrication and installation of steel gates. H. Construction of welcome sign, fee station, picnic shelters and group shelter. Work includes rough and finish carpentry, copper roof/flashing systems. I. Surface preparation and staining of existing wood structures and selective staining of new wood structures. J. Construction of pre-engineered vault toilets and sewage tanks. Work includes sanitary sewer pipe, holding tanks. Childs Glacier Recreation Area is located at mile post 48 of the Copper River Highway approximately 45 miles northeast of Cordova. Access to the project site is by unpaved road. Estimated price range is between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000 for the base bid and all additive bid items. All responsible sources may submit a bid which will be considered. Award of this project to be accomplished under Full and Open Competition, pursuant to the Small Business Competitiveness Demonstration Program. The solicitation will be available on approximately 04 April 2005 for viewing and printing. It will be the responsibility of the bidder to check FedBizOpps for any amendments to the solicitation or this announcement. This solicitation was previously synopsized as R10-04-024.
