Description
This notice is issued by the NASA/MSFC to post a Request for Information via the internet, and solicit responses from interested parties. This Request for Information is issued for the purpose of seeking offerors capable of meeting or exceeding the following requirements: The Space Optics Manufacturing and Technology Center at Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, AL, is requesting information on available technology to optically polish large aspheric mirrors. While new technology is highly desirable, traditional polishing machines may be the only practical consideration. The polishing machine must polish a minimum 30" diameter blank and have the minimum requirements of: Spindle RPM 30 rpm max Eccentric Speed 60 rpm max Single spindle Minimum Eccentric Stroke of 15" Vendors having the capabilities necessary to meet or exceed the stated requirements are invited to submit appropriate documentation, literature, brochures, and references. In your response, include, at a minimum, the following: (1) documentation of specifications; (2) estimated cost; and (3) estimated lead time. Please advise if the requirement is considered to be a commercial or commercial-type product. A commercial item is defined in FAR 2.101. This document is for information and planning purposes and to allow industry the opportunity to verify reasonableness and feasibility of the requirement, as well as promote competition. Prospective offerors are invited to submit written comments or questions to: Bradley Niese, PS51, MSFC, AL 35812, no later than January 18, 2005. When responding reference NNM05ZPS004L. Comments may be forwarded to Bradley Niese via electronic transmission or by facsimile transmission. This presolicitation synopsis is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government, nor will the Government pay for the information submitted in response. Respondents will not be notified of the results. An ombudsman has been appointed -- See NASA Specific Note "B". The solicitation and any documents related to this procurement will be available over the Internet. These documents will reside on a World Wide Web (WWW) server, which may be accessed using a WWW browser application.
