Description
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute on Aging (NIA) intends to negotiate with Wake Forest University (WFU) School of Medicine for a two year extension of their existing contract number N01-AG-9-2115 titled ?Effects of Hormone Replacement Therapy on Cognitive Aging: Women?s Health Initiative Study of Cognitive Aging (WHISCA)?. The original contract was to collect ancillary data (neuropsychological assessments) to the Women?s Health Initiative Memory Study (WHIMS) which was conducted by WFU with private funding. This extension will allow for up to 3 additional annual neuropsychological assessments. The appropriate statutory authority is 41 USC 253(c)(1), as set forth in FAR 6.302.1(a)(2) and FAR 6.302-1(b)(1)(i). The cited authority is applicable because Wake Forest University (WFU) School of Medicine is the only source that can fulfill the requirements of this contract extension. WHIMS was initiated by and is coordinated through WFU and WFU continues to perform this study. The data to be acquired under the proposed contract extension must use the same participants to continue to collect cognitive data. This is NOT a Request for Proposals. If, however, there are any responsible sources who feel they possess the abilities which would enable them to perform this project, they may submit a proposal which will be considered by NIH. SEE NUMBERED NOTE 22.
