Description
REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI) ONLY FOR PLANNING PURPOSES. THERE IS NO SOLICITATION DRAWING PACKAGE AVAILABLE. This is a request for information only as defined in FAR 15.201(e). The government does not presently intend to award a contract, but wants to obtain information on commercially available products. Responses to this notice are not offers and cannot be accepted by the Government to form a binding contract. The Air Warfare Battlelab (AWB), Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, is planning to conduct research that will evaluate commercial options to solve the following problem: The Air Warfare Battlelab is currently investigating the viability of the use of infrared technology in troubleshooting aircraft malfunctions or discrepancies. The technology would be specified for on-the-job use in both back shop and flightline maintenance environments. The unit will be employed to aid the troubleshooting of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and environmental and any other applicable malfunctions. The system needs to be fully transportable, handheld when in use and utilize software to download the images to more closely scrutinize if needed. The specifications of the system are as follows: 1. Must be transportable in hardened case for a one-person carry. 2. Handheld with viewing screen for quick on-the-job viewing 3. Images must be downloadable for more scrutinized viewing 4. Software must be compatible with Air Force computer systems and Microsoft software 5. Readable to +/- 2 degrees Fahrenheit 6. Durable to withstand harsh operating environments The AWB is interested in Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) products that could be used as-is to solve this problem. The AWB is seeking the following specific information from industry representatives: 1. The manufacturers suggested retail price for the commercial product. 2. The name of distributors who could sell to the Government. 3. The degree to which the product can meet or exceed the capabilities needed for the above problem. Requested information must be submitted NO LATER THAN 19 Nov 04 to Capt Dean Ramsett, Air Warfare Battlelab, 360 Gunfighter Ave, Suite 1, Mountain Home AFB, ID 83648. Early submittals would be appreciated. Capt Ramsett can be reached at (208) 828-3546. A formal solicitation MAY NOT BE ISSUED as a result of this RFI. Information provided may or may not be included in a formal solicitation. The USAF will not release any information -- marked with a Proprietary legend -- received in response to this RFI to any firms, agencies, or individuals outside the USAF without written permission in accordance with the legend.
