Description
The VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System, Omaha Division is seeking sources for agency nurses. Please read the following description very closely before responding to this notice. This facility is intending on an upcoming solicitation for short-term agency nurses who will be needed on an emergency, short notice basis. FSS contractors are invited to be a part of the solicitation but need to clearly understand the requirements. This facility will need a company who can provide locally based nurses. We will need to have a pool of available nurses who can be oriented (a three day process) and then be available on short notice. This is not a requirement for traveling nurses as these appointments will not be long term. We anticipate that appointments will be anywhere from one day to two weeks. There is the possibility that a long term (six weeks or more) appointment may come up but it will be rare. Currently, we are only considering utilizing this type of contract for the Omaha facility; however, we reserve the right to add our Lincoln and Grand Island facilities to any subsequent solicitation and contract. The majority of the nursing needs will be for registered nurses; however, we may consider licensed practical nurses within the scope. Areas of experience for the agency nurses will be conscious sedation administration and recovery, general medical surgical, monitoring skills, IV insertion, assessment capabilities, care planning, patient education, emotional support, ICU and urgent care. This is a fairly comprehensive listing but could include other categories as well. Even though we need 24 hour availability, the majority of shifts that will need to be covered will be the midnight to 8:00 a.m. shift. This may constitute the only nation-wide announcement for this requirement so if you feel you can provide the services, be sure to respond to this announcement. Please no telephone calls. If you wish to be considered or if you have specific questions, e-mail the Contracting Officer at Brenda.birks@med.va.gov. All responses and/or questions need to be received by the Contracting Officer no later than November 1, 2004. At this time, this will be an unrestricted solicitation unless it is determined through responses and market research that there will be sufficient small business and/or small disadvantaged and other socioeconomic categories to warrant a set aside action. Please be sure to note your business size and any special socioeconomic classifications. The NAICS code for this requirement is 621399 with an average annual of $6 million.
