- LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY SEEKS PARTNERSHIPS WITH INDUSTRY TO FURTHER DEVELOP AND COMMERCIALIZE AN INLINE EVENFLOW MATERIAL DISTRIBUTOR FOR PNEUMATIC MATERIAL FEED SYSTEMS Announcement: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), seeks one or more industry partners further develop and commercialize its Inline Evenflow Material Distributor for Pneumatic Material Feed Systems. Pneumatic material feed systems are known to have clogging problems in the feed lines that cause frequent shutdowns to clean-out the lines. One known solution to the clogging problem in pneumatic material feed systems is to dry materials in an oven to remove all moisture to prevent the agglomeration of abrasives in the system. This process is time consuming, results in high energy costs, and does not completely alleviate the clogging. LLNL has developed an inline evenflow material distributor technology that solves the ongoing problem of abrasive materials clogging in water jet machining systems, resulting in better efficiency and reliability of the system. LLNL?s technology replaces drying ovens and lowers energy costs while increasing productivity in pneumatic delivery applications for powdered or granular abrasion materials. Utilizing this inline evenflow technology enabled LLNL to use otherwise unusable moisture ridden garnet abrasive without difficulty, saving time, energy, and materials. A patent is pending on LLNL?s inline evenflow material distributor that can be used in pneumatic systems for any material that is affected by moisture or where clogging and clumping is a common problem. LLNL?s inline evenflow material distributor technology provides even distribution of ambient moisture ridden materials in pneumatic supply systems; it allows the use of abrasives that have excessive moisture (due to relative humidity) in waterjet machining applications; and it minimizes excessive/erratic flow rates of abrasive to the mixing tube. Disruptions in cutting action reduces productivity and edge quality. LLNL is utilizing its inline evenflow material distributor technology for metal cutting applications. The device is scalable and can be applied wherever pneumatic material delivery systems are used including waterjet machining, abrasive/sandblasting, industries that use large dryers and/or build machinery for the chemical industry, automotive industry, food processing, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. Note: THIS IS NOT A PROCUREMENT. Companies interested in developing and commercializing LLNL's inline evenflow material distributor technology should provide a written statement of interest, which includes the following: 1. Company Name and Address 2. The name, address, and telephone number of a point of contact 3. A description of corporate expertise and facilities relevant to commercializing this technology Written responses should be directed to: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Industrial Partnerships and Commercialization P.O. Box 808, L-795 Livermore, CA 94551-0808 Attention: FBO 95-04 Please provide your written statement within thirty (30) days from the date this announcement is published to ensure consideration of your interest in developing and commercializing LLNL's evenflow material distributor technology.
