Description
The U.S. Army TACOM-ARDEC has a requirement for an initial quantity of six thousand one hundred (6,100_ M249 Forward Pistol Grip Assemblies (U.S. Government Part #13008484) that attaches to the forward rail assembly of the M249 Machine Gun. In addition there may be four subsequent options with a potential of either 6,000-9,000 or 9,0001-12,000 Forward Pistol Grip Assemblies per option. The Forward Pistol Grip Assembly attaches to the bottom rail of the forward rail assembly of the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW). It provides a more ergonomically designed angular pistol grip with a simple, secure attachment mechanism to provide the solider the ability to more accurately control the M249 SAQ during the assault mode. This pistol grip is compatible with the existing standard bipod and also with the new improved bipod design when the bipods are folded. The Forward Pistol Grip Assembly is composed of a molded plastic pistol grip with a metal adapter for attachment to the M249 forward rail assembly composed of 7075 T6 aluminum alloy and steel fasteners. The aluminum and steel parts require a black oxide coating with a lusterless black finish. No deviations to the U.S. Government drawing materials, treatment or finish will be permitted. The contractor shall fabricate the item in accordance with U.S. Government drawings, inspect them in accordance with U.S. Government Quality Assurance Provisions (QAP) and package them in accordance with U.S. Government Special Packaging Instructions (SPI). The contractor must be able to sustain a delivery schedule of 1000 Forward Pistol Grip Assemblies per month. There will be a First Article Test quantity and a requirement to pass First Article prior to approval for full production. The competitive RFP will be available for download on or about October 22, 2004 at http://procnet.pica.army.mil.
