Description
The work includes cutting and removing all tree and tree like vegetation, including mangroves, from 54 acres near Runway 07 on Boca Chica Airfield. Cuttings shall be disposed of by burning and disposal of ash off of Government property or other more cost effective means such as transport to a landfill off of Government property. Vegetation, which is classified as herbaceous, shall be protected. Cut trees and tree like vegetation flush with the ground with minimal disturbance to the underlying soils and substrate. Remove red mangroves, including roots, to the underlying ground surface including submerged and ditch surfaces. Work occurs in wetlands, uplands, and some submerged areas. All work including transport of cuttings out of the wetlands, uplands and submerged lands shall be performed by hand with man held equipment. Vehicles and large equipment shall not enter wetland, uplands, or submerged land. Remove and dispose off of Government property all trash and debris (except old anchor chains) that have been dumped on the 59 acres addressed in the project. The intent is to provide an unobstructed surface that aircraft can roll over without damage caused by vegetation except that which is classified as herbaceous. Additional work includes cleaning 120? culvert and maintenance dredging approximately 1250? by 25? drainage canal. Assume 1? of silt and a maximum 5? water depth. Additional work includes removal of exotics from 2.5 acres not on the airfield. Assume all areas are wetlands and require the same methodology for vegetation removal as those areas on the airfield. THIS SOLICITATION WILL BE POSTED ON THE NAVFAC WEBSITE: http://esol.navfac.navy.mil/ ON 9 SEPTEMBER 2004.
