- Description
- Description The U.S. Army TACOM, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ 07806-5000, office of the Program Manager Crew Served Weapons is conducting a market survey to identify potential sources to develop and demonstrate an alternative cartridge case material for the family of small caliber cartridges (5.56mm up to cal .50). The goal of this effort is to reduce cartridge weight by at least 20% by replacing the brass case with an alternative lightweight cartridge case. The assembled lightweight cartridge shall match or exceed the current ballistic performance specifications requirements of the standard production brass cased ammunition and be capable of being implemented into current manufacturing and final assembly process (i.e. primer & mouth sealant, propellant loading, linking, packaging etc.). The lightweight cartridge case is expected to perform and survive the environment that the brass case has historically demonstrated in the current legacy machinegun (open bolt) and rifle (closed bolt) weapon systems currently fielded. Interested firms should submit literature/brochures not exceeding twenty (20) pages describing their technical capabilities, item design details including any information and testing accomplished, material characteristics, production capability (monthly sustainable production rate). This information may be mailed to David J DeCandia, Contract Specialist, U.S. Army TACOM, Picatinny Center for Contracting and Commerce, AMSTA-AQ-APD, Building 10, Picatinny Arsenal, N. J. 07806-5000. This Market Survey is for information and planning purposes only, and does not constitute a Request for Proposal (RFP), and is not to be construed as a commitment by the U. S. Government. The Government does not imply an intention or opportunity to acquire funding to support current or future development efforts. If a formal solicitation is generated at a later date, a solicitation notice will be published. No award will be made as a result of this Market Survey. All information is to be submitted at no cost or obligation to the Government. The Government reserves the right to reject, in whole or in part, any private sector input as a result of this market survey. Respondents will not be notified of the results of this survey or results of information submitted. Please submit your responses no later than, 01 Oct 2004.
