- This synopsis is being posted to both the Federal Business Opportunities(FBO) page located at http://www.eps.gov and the Navy Electronic Commerce on Line(NECO) site located at http://www.neco.navy.mil. While it is understood that FBO is the single point of entry for posting of synopsis and solicitations to the internet, NECO is the alternative in case FBO is unavailable. Please feel free to use either site to access information posted by the Navy Sea Systems Command. The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division intends to purchase on a sole source basis a Small Caliber Fragment Simulating Projectiles (FSP) Launch System from Physics Applications, Inc., 7635 Wilmington Pike, Dayton, OH 45458. The gun system must be capable of firing FSP from 0.22 caliber up to 20mm in both rifled and smooth bore configurations. In addition the breech chamber must be configured to vary the breech volume as required to reduce ullage and enable reproducible and controlled velocities. PAI is the sole source capable of building a universal gun system from 20mm down to 22 caliber in both smooth and rifled barrels and additionally enable the breech volume adjustability to reduce ullage effects leading to large variations in anticipated incident velocities of the fired projectiles. The universal gun system with chamber breech volume adjustability is required to fulfill a need in V-50 armor testing. The North American Industry Classification System cod! e is 334516. The contract shall be a firm fixed priced contract. FOB Destination shall apply. The Request for Quote number is N00178-04-Q-1063. The anticipated award date is 27 August 2004. DESCRIPTION: The components ordered consist of 8 different barrels of both smooth and rifled barrels for 20mm, 0.50 caliber, 0.30 caliber, and 0.22 caliber bores. In addition the breech system will be designed to provide adjustability to the breech volume.
