Description
NO PREFERENCE PROGRAM LISTED. At the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Ute Mountain Ute Agency, Court of Indian Offenses, CFR Court, Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, Towaoc, Colorado, Chief Magistrate will: (1) Preside over the civil, criminal and juvenile dockets, (2) Make judgments and decisions based on the Federal rules of civil, criminal and evidence procedures for magistrate courts, the Ute Mountain Ute Tribes penal, civil and childrens codes, customs/traditions of the Ute Mountain Tribe, (3) Attend and participate in training seminars, workshops and conferences that directly relate to the chief magistrate services, (4) Establish a work schedule, which will include time for judicial service, administrative matters, research, conferences, library time and to conduct hearings, (5) Attend to administrative functions after regular working hours when required to issue search warrants and telephonic arrangements, (6) Provide current contact numbers and addresses, i.e., telephone, facsimile, e-mail, home, and cellular phone to the COR, (7) Notify the court clerk no less than twenty-four hours when scheduled absences will occur and by 9:00 AM of the day an unexpected absence occurs, (8) Research court cases, tribal ordinances, Code of Federal Regulations, Federal law, State of Colorado law, State of Utah law, tribal customs/traditions and other authorities that would apply to cases before the court, (9) work a maximum of 28-hours per week. During the 28-hour week perform chief magistrate duties. Qualifications: (a) Have a minimum of two years experience in actual practice and litigation experience in general civil and criminal law and actual practice within three years prior to August 2004, (b) Have a current license to practice law, (c) Have a current working knowledge of Indian and tribal law, the Code of Federal Regulations, Federal law, State of Colorado law and State of Utah law, (d) Pass a background check.
