- Description Of Intent: This Is A Market Survey Requesting Information In Support Of The Following Potential Requirement. No contract will be awarded from this announcement. This is not a Request for Proposal (RFP) or an announcement of the forthcom ing solicitation, nor is it a request seeking contractors to be placed on a solicitation mailing list. Response to this survey is voluntary and no reimbursement will be made for any costs associated with providing information in response to this market su rvey and any follow-on information requests. Data submitted in response to this market survey will not be returned. No solicitation document exists at this time, and calls requesting a solicitation will not be answered. Interested sources must, within th irty (30) days following the publication of this synopsis, respond with information on their current commercial product(s) and how they are made or could be modified to address the Military requirement. Potential Requirement: The Petroleum & Water Business Area at the U. S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development, and Engineering Center is conducting a market investigation to identify domestic products, suppliers, and manufacturers of individual water treatment/purification devices. The U.S. Army is interested in identifying firms with capabilities to provide design/develop for a man-portable, water purification device weighing less than 20 ounces (dry weight), for individual soldier use in purifying w ater. The Government is seeking technologies that are scaleable to provide squad, vehicle, or water trailer level purification and enhanced palatability over current military water purification devices and systems. The purification device must be capable of disinfecting and/or removing microbiological contaminants to levels as stated by the EPA Guide Standard Test Protocol for Microbiological Purifiers (bacterial removal to 6 logs, protozoan cysts removal to 3 logs, and viral removal to 4 logs). The Gover nment is seeking a system that can remove certain chemicals to US Army short-term consumption standards (TB Med 577) from fresh water sources, seawater purification, reducing turbidity (to less than 1 ntu), flow rates (water container filling rate of one l iter in less than five minutes), size, and weight. The product must produce at least 150 liters of potable water before maintenance or the need for replacement parts. Electronic.
