Description
Renovation of Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) Area, Project No. 637-310. The contractor shall provide materials, tools, equipment, labor and supervision to perform the work of renovation of Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) section, Building 47 at the VA Medical Center, Asheville, North Carolina. The work includes renovation of approximately 10,744 square feet of the existing second floor east wing. This work will accommodate a new twelve (12) bed intensive care nursing unit including demolition and renovation in three existing rooms on the second floor west wing, which will house a new Patient Waiting Room. Additional work will be required on the first floor east area for the demolition and relocation of plumbing pipelines. Work will include abatement of asbestos containing material that is associated with the piping elbows and the mastic and vinyl tile flooring, the addition of a new chiller and air handling unit and associated ductwork, wiring and piping to be located outside on the second floor roof adjacent to the new surgical unit and renovation of both existing public toilets and one small office. The construction work will be completed in two phases after completion of the asbestos abatement phase. Phase I involves demolition and construction of approx. 6500 sq ft plus approx. 1860 sq. ft of asbestos containing vct floor tile and mastic. Phase II will begin when Phase I is complete and will involve demolition and construction of the remaining 3800 sq. ft. All work shall be in accordance with construction drawings and specifications, as well as meet all OSHE, EPA, VA, and other guidelines and requirements. Estimated construction cost is between $2,000,000, and $5,000,000 and should take 270 days to complete (including submittal review) after date of receipt of the notice to proceed. This solicitation is 100% set-aside for small business and the NAICS Code 236220 applies with a size standard of less than $27.5 million dollars. The award of this project is subject to the availability of funds. The solicitation packet will be available at this website within 15 days of the synopsis posted date or sooner and can be downloaded and printed from this website. Drawings must be requested in writing on company letterhead. Telephone requests will not be honored. Faxed requests may be sent to (828) 299-2501, attn: Karen A. Ramsey, Contracting Officer. Fifteen sets of drawings will be available and issued on a first come, first serve basis to prime contractors until the supply is exhausted. Drawings will not be uploaded. Drawings will be sent to the following plan rooms: Dodge Reports in Charlotte, N.C. and AGC in Asheville, N.C. A pre-bid meeting and walk-thru is scheduled for August 18, 2004 at 1:00pm to help minimize the interruptions to the clinics on 2-East and the patients on 1-East.
