- Description
- The Coast Guard Telecommunications and Information Systems Command has an interested in possible Shipboard Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment to interface with an existing shipboard MF/HF transmitter and antenna. Functional requirements for the DSC controller: Ref (a): International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Recommendation M-493. ?Shall be able to receive and continuously guard 2.1875 kHz for a distress, safety, urgency, or routine DSC message traffic. ?Upon receipt of a DSC call, equipment must be able to visually or aurally distinguish between a distress call and any other type of DSC call. The equipment shall indicate the receipt of a distress call by both aural and visual means. The audio alarm for distress calls shall sound continuously, until manually silenced by the operator. ?Shall be able to store at least 20 DSC calls in the DSC equipment?s memory. ?Shall have the capability to: (1)Receive and acknowledge DSC calls on any DSC frequency from 2 - 30 MHz IAW ref (a). The equipment shall be configured so that 2187.5 kHz is the only DSC channel guarded. (2)Transmit distress DSC calls on any DSC frequency from 2 - 30 MHz IAW ref (a). (3)Transmit urgency and safety DSC calls on any DSC frequency from 2 - 30 MHz IAW ref (a). (4)Transmit routine DSC calls on any DSC frequency from 2 - 30 MHz IAW ref (a). ?In order to maintain OPSEC, DSC equipment shall not automatically respond to any DSC call, including position queries. If automatic response is a feature of the selected DSC equipment, it shall be disabled prior to installation. All transmissions from the DSC control unit shall require the manual intervention of an operator. All DSC calls received shall be displayed to the operator, including polling requests.
