Description
Construction of Sea Lamprey Barriers and Traps. The Detroit District plans to issue two or more indefinite delivery,indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contracts set aside for hub zone contractors. The contracts will contain a base period and option periods. Awarded contractors will compete for individual orders for available projects, expected to range between $100,000.00 to $250,000.00. Some projects may be considerably higher. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) is 237990. Small busin ess size standard is $28,500,000.00 annual receipts. The first two orders are anticipated to be: Carp Lake River, Sea Lamprey Barrier: This project consists of a Sheet Pile (ssp) barrier driven across the Carp Lake River, with two steel cages built on a reinforced concrete pad. Required work consists of clearing and grubbing, erosion control, select tree removal, excavation and fill, installation of tie rods and ssp walls, placement of riprap and reinforced concrete, fabrication of lamprey trap appurtenances including walls, screens, and grating, placement of aggregate walk and parking area, fabricat ion and installation of signs, grading and seeding, and removal of existing barrier consisting mainly of ssp and concrete. The location is approximately 10 miles west of Mackinaw City, Michigan. St. Mary's River, Sea Lamprey Trap: This project consists of fabricating and constructing 5 lamprey traps on the face of the Edison Sault Electric Company Power Plant in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. The traps are approximately 4.5' x 2.75' x 4' tall. A pl atform approximately 22' x 14' shall be installed around the traps for servicing the traps. The platform will be supported by H-piles and shall consist of galvanized steel grating. Flow diversion pipes will also be installed, and a crane hoist system wil l be constructed. This work may need to done from a floating plant. Other possible project sites at for future projects include: Galien River, in Berrien County, Michigan Trail Creek, in LaPorte County, Indiana Black Mallard Creek, in Presque Isle Couty, Michigan Schmidt Creek, in Presque Isle County, Michigan Paw Paw River, Berrien County, Michigan Bad River, Ashland County, Wisconsin Manistique River, Manistique, Michigan These constrution projects are part of a Great Lakes basin-wide program of controlling sea lamprey, an invasive species. The long term goal is construction of up to 50 or more barriers/traps. Some barriers will include vertical slot or denil fishways. In some instances, variable crest height weirs may be used. The solicitation should be available on www.lre.usace.army.mil in the first part of August.
