Description
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), Light Imaging Facility LIF) plans to procure an Axiovert 200 Motorized Research Microscope Upgrade for an existing LSM 510 system from Carl Zeiss Inc., One Zeiss Drive, Thornwood, NY 10594. The LSM 510 was purchased in 1999 and is based on an Axiovert 100 microscope. The Axiovert 100 does not have the optical components needed for optimal fluorescence imaging and is not fully compatible with the current version of the operating system because it lacks the capability for motorized control of the fluorescence sets and the condenser turret. The purchase of an Axiovert 200MOT will provide improved optics and better compatibility with the operating system. The upgrade will improve the performance of the entire confocal imaging system and allow it to be used for the most demanding applications, in particular, imaging fluorescence in living specimens. The Axiovert 100 will be used as the base for a new conventional epifluorescence imaging setup. This confocal microscope system is commercial as defined in FAR Part 2, and this acquisition is being made in accordance with the simplfied acquisition procedures for certain commercial items as authorized in FAR 13.5. Carl Zeiss Inc. is the only organization known to the NCI/NINDS researcher's which can provide the aforementioned upgrade on an existing LSM 510 system. This is not a request for competitive quotation. However, if any interested party believes it can meet the above requirement and the noted features, it may submit a statement of capabilities. The statement of capabilities and any other information furnished must be in writing and must contain material in sufficient detail to allow the NCI/NINDS researchers to determine if the party can perform this requiement. Please provide an original and one copy of the capability statements to the contracting office by 1:30 PM EDT, on July 29, 2004. All questions should be directed to Cynthia Brown, Purchasing Agent on 301-402-4509. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed requirement based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. The NAICS Code is 334516 and business size standard is 500 employees. Reference RFQ-NCI-40073-NQ when responding/inquiring to the notice.
